Animal Injury Compensation Claims
Accidents caused by Animals
Have you have been injured by an animal owned by a third party ?
If so, then you may have a claim.
- Claims may arise from
• Attacks by dogs
• Animals being ineffectively contained
• Animals causing road traffic accidents
• Accidents involving horses
The Animals Act 1971 deals with the responsibilities and liabilities of animal ownership.
Where an animal belonging to a dangerous species causes injury then the keeper of the animal will usually be responsible. If the animal is one that would not usually be considered dangerous then the keeper of the animal may still be responsible for any damage or injury caused if the animal behaved in such a way that could be expected in certain circumstances and the animal displayed unusual characteristics which the owner previously knew of.
The law surrounding claims caused by animals is not always straightforward and expert evidence as to the characteristics of certain animals is often required.
